“The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts.” – Marcus Aurelius.
What I’ve noticed about my style in the years that I’ve had an online journal of all my somewhat daily OOTDs is that I’ve veered away from color. Looking back, I used to wear a lot of color. When colorblocking was a trend, I was so excited to participate. Nowadays, my wardrobe contains of a lot of black, white, brown, navy blue, and gray. I gravitate more towards monochromatic looks, and I use my accessories to get a pop of color.
When the preview for the VB x Target collection was released, I was actually drawn towards the pink and orange pieces. I was excited when I saw them. It was like being back to my colorful days when color actually appealed to me. As soon as I saw them in person though, I back pedaled and only purchased one colorful piece — which was an online only item. It’s probably because I didn’t see the item in person, and it was easier to justify the purchase because “it looked good on the model.”
Now that the collection is 30% off online (and in stores), I decided to give it another go. A few of the colorful pieces were still on the racks, including this scallop top. I had already purchased the black version the day of the release, so I thought I would give the orange one a try as well — especially at 30% off.
It’s still a bit shocking seeing it on as I’m writing this entry. I don’t know how many times I’m actually going to wear this top, but I can probably wear it to the beach with a pair of shorts or over the black scallop skirt from the same line. I guess we’ll see soon enough!
